The producer of EXO’s “Ko Ko Bop” has shared some intriguing information about the song’s history!

On December 27, Styalz Fuego (who also goes by his given name Kaelyn Behr) decided to post a “K-pop random fact” on Twitter. The Australian songwriter, who co-wrote and produced the 2017 EXO smash hit, blew fans’ minds by revealing, “Ko Ko Bop was originally written for Red Velvet, the key was 3 notes higher but was then pitched down to suit EXO.”

Later, after the tweet blew up, he commented in surprise, “Well this created quite a scene.”

Styalz Fuego has previously mentioned in the past that “Ko Ko Bop” was originally written for a girl group, though he didn’t name any names at the time. One of the other songwriters who worked on the track also hinted at the fact that the song had been written in a female key back in 2017, when he shared a brief snippet of the original demo and revealed that it had been recorded by a female vocalist. (The post has since been deleted.)
